Analysis: What The Completion Of Ifako-Ijaiye BRT Terminal Means For Residents

Published

on

Transporation, one of the key agendas of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s project T.H.E.M.E.S has witnessed some transformational changes in his three years in office. One of such is the completion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminal in Agege (Ifako-Ijaiye BRT Terminal).

This is a welcome development for the people of Ifako-Ijaiye as it will help reduce the stress residents go through in commuting within Ifako-Ijaiye.

As your number one source for verified news, IfakoijaiyeNews brings you a detailed analysis of what the completion of the terminal means for residents of the Local Government.

Employment Creation With Ifako-Ijaiye BRT Terminal

One of the benefits of having such within the Local Government is that it will create employment opportunities for the many qualified unemployed youths in Ifako-Ijaiye. Ticket clerks, Technical support officers, and monitoring and compliance officers, amongst others, will all be needed.

However, roles for the jobs should be duly publicised so as to have qualified and competent hands to man the available posts when they are open. If not so, it will be overtaken by politicians and the ‘slots’ given to less qualified people.

This is also a wake-up call to the Chairman of the LG, Hon Usman Hamzat to ensure that there is due transparency with this, unlike the empowerment programmes that residents only get to hear about when the beneficiaries have been selected through the back door.

Ease And Comfort In Commuting

Without a doubt, one of the benefits will be the ease of commuting for residents of the Local Government. With the clampdown of commercial motorcycles in Lagos State, commuting for residents of Ifako-Ijaiye has been a tough one. hours

Residents stay for hours at Pen Cinema during close hours, waiting for the yellow buses and tricycles to take home. Once the terminal becomes operational, their lives will be easier.

Same Time In Traffic

Dedicated bus lanes separate BRT buses from mixed traffic, thereby allowing people to get to their destination on time. However, the case is not the same along the Iju Road. With the absence of a dedicated lane for BRT, commuters will still be stuck in traffic.
