Residents of Taiwo Lawal Street in the Oko Oba area of Ojokoro have described Prophetess Mercy Okocha of the Truth and The Spirit Prophetic Church as a fetish person.
Prophetess Mercy Okocha was arrested along with other church members following the death of an Oro worshipper, Akeem Adebisi.
A clash between Oro traditional worshippers and members of the church occurred on Tuesday during vigil service.
The fight resulted in the death of Akeem, who was also a tailor.
IfakoijaiyeNews gathered that Akeem was hit with a coconut, which some residents alleged was one of the fetish items used by the prophetess.
The online newspaper visited the scene of the incident on Thursday and spoke with some residents of the area.
She Is Too Fetish For A Prophetess
A resident of the area who identified himself as Akeem said Prophetess Mercy Okocha operates more like a traditionalist than a ‘person of God.’
He said, “That woman (Prophetess Mercy Okocha) acts more like an Ifa priest that a pastor. During vigils most times, you would hear her chanting incantations and I wonder exactly what goes on in that church. It is one thing to use proverbs when talking, it is another thing to chant incantations. God forgive me but she is not a prophet.”
Another resident, who didn’t want her name mentioned for security reasons, alleged that in the morning, people wake up to fetish things around in front of her church and in the street.

“This woman did a lot of fetish stuff in that church. I think her time is just up and that was what made the clash with Oro worshippers happen. When you wake in the morning, you see sponges, some burnt clothes and other fetish things around her church and the streets.
“Residents complain a lot but nobody wants to confront her out of fear of their lives. You can imagine the power she wields to have confronted Oro worshippers and even kill one with coconut,” she said.
Another female resident, Adenike Olayemi, told IfakoijaiyeNews.com that Prophetess Mercy Okocha relies so much on juju that she sometimes brags about ‘punishing’ people who cross her path.
She said, “A lot of people avoid her like the plague. If you are a woman of God, people living in the same street with you will want to associate more with you. However, in her case, the reverse is the case.
“People avoid her and the few ones who crossed her path, she threatened to deal with them.
Adenike alleged that a resident who fought her had to relocate from the area when things went from good to bad for her.
The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, SP Ben Hundeyin, via a tweet, confirmed the incident.
He tweeted, “Oro worshippers clashed with church members holding a vigil. It sadly resulted in the death of one person. It’s clearly a murder case. Suspects have been arrested. But henceforth, how do we ensure religious tolerance in similar cases?”
